]]>
Evolution is typically defined as “a change in the genetic composition of a population over successive generations.” When we hear evolution, we tend to think of the progressive change of a species adapting gradually over time in response to their shifting environment.

This article will address evolution from a spiritual perspective. For simplification, let’s say that evolution is a process of growth and change that usually produces a stronger, more advanced form that is better able to thrive in an existing environment.

The term spiritual evolution indicates that our mind and spirit evolve from a simple form that’s dominated by nature and the physical world to a higher form dominated by the Spiritual or Divine.

In plain language, it’s the growth and transformation of your soul and the awakening of your higher Self. Therefore, understanding how to evolve can guide you on an unimaginable journey of self-discovery.

As you move through life, any number of circumstances can encourage your personal evolution. The choices you make in response to these occurrences are catalysts for the evolution of your Soul. These defining moments allow for transformational shifts in your journey and encourage growth and self-discovery, which are key to achieving success with greater fulfillment and joy.

4 Questions to Guide You Through Evolutionary Change

1. Where are you in your evolution?
The first step to realizing your full potential is to acknowledge that your journey has already begun. Recognizing where you are on your journey and where you desire to be helps you continue forward with greater confidence.

Consider your past, your future, how far you’ve come, and the values you want to convey to the world. As you reach greater levels of awareness, you may discover you’re further along in your evolution than you thought, or you might uncover new aspirations for growth.

2. How do you perceive your past choices?
As you reflect on your journey, you might feel regret about a moment in the past. If this occurs, it’s important to understand that dwelling on past mistakes can prevent forward movement. When you are able to look back and recognize these moments as learning experiences instead, you shift your narrative.

3. How do you respond to challenges?
Your response to challenges can significantly impact your evolutionary process. As you grow spiritually, you begin to shed your ego and embrace greater self-awareness. So, when you are faced with unexpected external events, instead of reacting without thinking, you’ll be able to respond more consciously and with greater clarity.

Learning to accept even the most difficult circumstances with greater ease creates the space for new opportunities and paths to show up.

4. What tools can help you have a positive evolutionary experience?
When a life event occurs, it may not seem clear at first how it will impact your growth. There are tools, or spiritual practices, that can provide the clarity and perspective to evolve with greater ease. Below are a few of these practices and how they work:

 • Mindful movement relaxes the body and calms the mind. Mindful movement is any activity that is done with intention and allows you to focus on your breath in order to create stillness in the mind.
 • Journaling evokes subconscious thoughts for greater mental clarity.
 • Spoken affirmations encourage greater confidence and ease during uncertain times.
 • Gratitude is a reminder of how far you’ve come in life and the growth you’ve accomplished on your journey. Practicing gratitude daily to acknowledge all that you have can bring even more blessings into your life.

Spiritual evolution is a personal journey that might be prompted by an undesirable or unexpected circumstance. When you understand that any experience is a part of your evolutionary journey, you are better able to harness its positive aspects for a greater connection with your higher Self.

This year, let life’s changes inspire your journey of evolution.

Breathe deeply.

The flames rage and crackle in fury, like popcorn imprisoned in a lidded bowl. The intensity pulls me from my seat into an ephemeral world. It’s a journey of sorts; I know deep within me that there is magic here.

It has been a wonderfully powerful day of synchronicities. I have seen them everywhere. I sensed them before they materialized.

Then he intrudes. The one that I call The Menace—that little voice that intrudes every time I want to do something truly meaningful for myself. I breathe deeper, let the noise float by on a cloud, taking it away from this space.

Today it feels different. The flames are stronger, and I am more connected “within” this time. This time l have pushed him away; he’s a construct of my own making, a persistent bug trying for more of my juice.

I allow the tug of the hearth; I allow the pull of the flames. I know that I am safe; it is time to surrender, to explore what awaits beyond the inferno, beyond the physical barrier. I sit and I focus on one mesmerizing, magnificent flame.

I unfocus my eyes, then close them. I breathe deeply of the hot air, inhale the heady aroma of cedar and sage carrying me deeper into this moment, away from what surrounds me into a place more otherworldly than I have experienced before.

The heat and fury now seem to be going on around me; they cause me no harm. I am in my inner sanctum, a place of protection. I am a part of the whole.

It is both seductive and sacred, flames lick in a slow dance. My breathing quietens to match them. The crackle becomes a subtle background sound, no longer a cause of distraction. I am calm, I am present, there are no more intrusions.

A whisper from the fire tickles my senses. “You are here to listen, so be still child, and open your heart; allow yourself to feel your way through the fire—there are great gifts to be had on this journey.”

There is a deepening, and I feel loved and comforted, held safe. All is as it should be.

I am beckoned from deep within my soul space. The sense of movement is mystical, and I realize I’m not actually walking. I am simply going to a place within; it is a metaphysical experience of this world.

My focus shifts the light, the flames become more fluid like; their warm, deep copper colors transcending to deep purples and blues.

An aurora now, no longer flames, encompassing all that is found here. I feel the presence of an old soul, a trusted and cherished friend. My thoughts bring her to my side.

The words are heard deeply but not spoken aloud. She tells me, “This is your homeland, your ancestry, and your birth right.”

She shows me the plain beyond her. Vast skies with constellations I have never seen before expanding down to a horizon of wild, lush grasses.

The whole of this place is formed of the aurora; concentrating on one spot causes the colors to deepen, bringing them into clarity. My eyes experiment; everywhere they land comes into glorious, sharp, and splendid relief.

The detail of the landscape dances into life in front of me. Where there is water, it is crystalline and clear. I can feel its coolness as a part of my being. Where there are grasslands, I feel their movement in the breeze within me. My sense of connection to this place is intrinsic to who I am.

I am at one with all that is.

I focus on the woman. I do know this beautiful soul; I have known her for a very long time. My mind briefly flickers back to The Menace, and she raises her gaze to the heavens.

High in the sky above me there is a swirling intense dark and smoky light, completely at odds with everything that surrounds us. As I breathe out, the air circulates and pushes the smoke away, and it dissipates.

She touches my arm again; her thoughts are my thoughts. “It is gone, and it no longer serves you. You are free from its grasp now.”

She tells me that I should return here often and gift myself the privilege of remembering. That I’ve lost none of the old ways, I just need to rediscover them. She tells me each time I come here, there will be a deepening of my understanding, a rise in my consciousness.

I ask, “Why?”

She nods and smiles with her wise, old eyes, and I feel her answer: You have chosen to return here; it is your time.

She rises and touches my shoulder gently. She is leaving, but she will be back the next time I visit; we have much to accomplish. She tells me that for now I should return to my home and journey in a dream state.

I feel a tug, a slight shift in energy, a shimmering, and a displacement. I am alone again before I could even thank her.

My eyes flicker open. My hearth fire is just warm embers now. The silence is welcome. The Menace is nowhere to be felt. I am blissfully Alive and Awakened. All is well.

It’s not enough to know about thoughts becoming things, and then routinely lament with friends over the state of the world or bemoan that if you even look at food you gain weight.

Speaking negatively still gives the Universe marching orders. Of course, there’s a place, a teeny, tiny place, to convey thoughts of your predicament or circumstances to a therapist, coach, or best friend when you need to express how you’re feeling so that those feelings can be allowed to move on and be replaced.

Yet choose your listeners well, because often even well-intended commiseration such as, “Ain’t it awful… life’s not fair… can you believe this?” commands every element, all of the forces of nature, to perpetuate your situation through acts of serendipity and coincidence.

On the “plane of manifestation” you cannot say things, anything, without influencing the circumstances you will experience next.

Statements like, “Lo and behold, I met another guy who treated me like dirt,” “Another person ripped me off,” or, “I met another liar” explicitly tells the Universe that this is the kind of world you live in and it replies—with circumstances and manifestations—essentially saying, “Roger, got ya’. More of the same coming right up!”

Even self-deprecating humor should be abandoned, unless you’re a paid comedian. It may be good for a momentary chuckle, but is it worth the price?

How many times have you heard someone say, “I just had a senior moment”? Even said in jest, it’s still what the Universe is going to respond to if you say it enough times, because the more you say it the more you’ll believe it!

Here’s what’s important to remember:

1. Choose words that spark positive change.

Right now you can start saying things like:

 • I’ve got all the time in the world.
 • I’m surrounded by wealth and abundance.
 • Everything I touch turns to gold.
 • I love public speaking.
 • I never get jet lag.
 • I always have exactly the right thing to say at the right time to the right person.
 • I’m always in the right place at the right time.
 • My life is so easy.
 • I know what I’m going to do today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life. I have total clarity, total certainty.

And of course, there’s my personal favorite, I’m so-o-o-o-o photogenic! I can’t take a bad picture!

Today’s manifestations came from yesterday’s thoughts, words, and actions. Tomorrow’s manifestations will begin taking shape based on what we think, say, and do today.

We are all mid-journey here in time and space; our lives are a work in progress, yet to pick any day of that journey and use it to define “who we are” is like reading a novel halfway through and then writing a book review on it.

Of course, I’m not suggesting you tell everyone about this “reality” or how you now see yourself. Choose words that suit the company you’re in. But among friends who get this stuff, and to yourself, let your words reflect the celebration of creation that your life is.

2. Express gratitude to the Universe.

When you express gratitude or say “thank you” to the Universe or your greater self, what you’re actually saying is synonymous with, “I have received.”

This is true when you give thanks for what you already have and when you give thanks for what you desire as if you already had it—health, friends, wealth, abundance. This is super-powerful!

You’re going beyond the end result: you’re putting out the emotion to the Universe. And the only way the Universe can manifest that emotion—that gratitude—back to you is to manage circumstances, people, and players in your life that will yield the gratitude you first sent out.

Knowing this helps us to be careful about our list of desires. If you express your desires in terms of, “I want, I want,” you’re also implying and stating to the Universe, “I don’t have, I don’t have.” Not what you want to perpetuate!

So, when you’re expressing your desires for change, the best way to do so is through expressions of gratitude—thanking the Universe in advance for the things that are on your wish list and already on their way, while at the same time appreciating what you already have.

Not because the Universe is passing judgment, waiting to see if you were thankful for the last lot of goodies it sent you before it will give you more, but because you live on the “plane of manifestation,” an un-judging plane, and whatever you put out there must come back; and if it’s gratitude for having received, then you must receive.

Here’s are three ways you can practice this:

1. Positive THOUGHT exercise:

Write a brief script for a scenario that you could visualize, which can be a starting point for a five-to ten-minute visualization. Let there be a number of elements included that imply success and happiness.

When this script is complete, visualize it, once a day, until it gets boring, and then create a new script to visualize.

2. Positive WORD exercise:

Create a palette for future use by making a list of things you can say about yourself, as if you were already the person living the life of your dreams. For example:

I am…

 • surrounded by friends and laughter
 • always in the right place at the right time
 • happier than I’ve ever been before
 • a magnet to opportunity…

I love…

 • how easy my life is
 • that my life understandings give me peace
 • where I live
 • the person I have become
 • my amazing home…

Make these lists long, and keep in mind that they aren’t phrases to recite once and then forget. Ideally, they’ll become part of your daily speech, naturally evolving to become more comprehensive and reflective of your ever-evolving preferences and manifestations.

3. Positive ACTION exercise:

List small acts of faith you can now perform in the coming days, weeks, and months, both to prepare for the inevitable arrival of your dream manifestations and as if your dreams have already come true.

Later, of course, do them! Perhaps assigning yourself to do one per day.

There are lots of angels other than guardian angels—angels that come and go and that our guardian angel lets in to help us.

One type of angels is what I call the unemployed angels. They have no work, because ordinary people who are working hard to get through their lives are not aware that these angels are there to help them.

About 10 years ago, the angels made me aware of just how many of them were unemployed (that was the term they used so I would understand), and all of a sudden I was shown that there were angels everywhere; it was as if they were pouring out of the heavens down through the sky. It was as if they were being poured out by the bucketful, constantly overflowing.

I knew God had released all these angels because he knew we needed their help.

To see the angels trying to attract the attention of us human beings can sometimes be hilarious. At times I have seen them pull something out of someone’s coat,or make them drop something. How many times have we heard people say “I keep dropping things,” or “I keep losing things.” Little do they know it’s the angels doing that to try to get their attention, yet they don’t notice.

The unemployed angels are always showing me they are doing their utmost to get our attention, and it seems so sad we have so much spiritual help out there waiting to help us, but we don’t ask for it.

Angels are, in a sense, walking around saying, “Listen—I’m here,” but many of us are not listening, we don’t want to listen, we want to believe that we can do everything ourselves, humanly. We have forgotten we have a soul.

We may believe that we are only flesh and blood, that we are nothing more, that there is nothing more—no afterlife, no God, no angels. With this thinking, it’s no wonder that we have become very materialistic and self absorbed.

The angels are here to help us to remember that we have a soul—that we are more than flesh and blood.

What I Have Been Shown:

On a winter’s day recently, I went to collect my daughter Megan from school. After collecting her, we went to the supermarket. There was a lot of traffic, so we weren’t going anywhere fast. Megan sat in the back seat, listening to music, while I watched the people struggling with the howling wind and lashing rain.

I saw two teenage girls coming from school, on the far side of the road, walking toward us. They had no coats on and were sauntering along, chatting, as if the sun was shining. I said to my angels, communicating as I often do without words, “I don’t know how those girls can feel warm on a day like this. They don’t even look wet despite the pouring rain.”

I had no sooner spoken than two angels, looking like young teenagers themselves, appeared behind the girls—almost on top of them. The angel’s wings went up and around the girls, trying to keep the rain and the wind and cold away from them.

I could see the raindrops dripping from the feathers on the angel’s wings. The angels looked so wet, as if buckets of water had been throw over them. The angels were trying to brush the rain away, I even saw them blowing the girl’s hair—I guess to dry it. It was just so funny watching the angels moving along at the same pace as the girls and shielding them. The girls, of course, were completely oblivious to the angels.

Angels are there helping us all the time, and so often we are like those teenagers, completely oblivious to the help.

Remember, all you have to do is ask and the angels will help. You may not notice their help, but I assure you they are helping—even if it’s in a way you don’t expect.

8 Aspects to Bring Spirituality into Your Everyday Life https://www.tut.com/8-aspects-to-bring-spirituality-into-your-everyday-life/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=8-aspects-to-bring-spirituality-into-your-everyday-life Tue, 10 Sep 2024 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.tut.com/?p=15716 The post 8 Aspects to Bring Spirituality into Your Everyday Life appeared first on TUT.

]]>
All of life is spiritual. Therefore, life itself is spirituality in practice. Instead of trying to figure out the best spiritual practices and concepts, focus on making your entire life a continuous spiritual practice.

It’s not the conventional way of thinking about spirituality, but it is a far more beneficial, fulfilling, and fun way of incorporating spirituality into your daily life.

You are a three-part being consisting of spirit, mind, and body. The spirit conceives ideas, your mind chooses from these concepts, which your body then experiences. Everything starts with the spirit.

So your impulse to clean the house is a spiritual concept! And yes, even doing the dishes can become a spiritual experience if you so choose and it will be much more fun and fulfilling if you do so.

Everyday Spirituality Is True Spirituality

Spirituality is the overarching truth about life. We are spiritual beings. Everything we experience is fundamentally spiritual. In fact, all of life is spiritual. Therefore, everyday spirituality is the truest form of spirituality.

Spirituality should not be confined to holy places or specific moments of practice, because every event in life holds a spiritual lesson and an opportunity to experience your truth about yourself.

Divinity is an integral part of the self and we can directly experience a connection with the divine in our daily lives. God, the source, the universe, life energy, whatever your name is for a spiritual “higher power,” is not a separate and distant entity. This connection to our divine selves is always present; it’s just a matter of whether we are aware of it or not.

So we should recognize the divinity in ourselves, and the spiritual significance in every moment, interaction, and relationship.

Your divine self is constantly experiencing life through your actions, each and every one of them. That’s why even the most mundane things, like walking, talking, cleaning, shopping, eating, and so on, are spiritual experiences.

To take advantage of this and to foster this connection with the divine within you, consider bringing spirituality consciously into your life by making it an integral part of everything you do.

Conscious Living—Putting Spirituality into Practice

Conscious living is a mindful and intentional approach to life based on being fully present in the current moment and aware of your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

It is a heightened awareness of your choices, your responses to situations, and the impact of your actions on yourself and the world around you.

So to truly practice spirituality, be present and mindful of everything you do.

Here are 8 key aspects for bringing spirituality into your daily life:

 1. Awareness: Bringing your awareness into the present moment, letting go of past worries and future anxieties to focus on the experience at hand
 2. Mindfulness: Non-judgmental awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and sensations
 3. Intentionality: Making choices aligned with your core values and aspirations, rather than reacting impulsively or being swayed by external events
 4. Authenticity: Aligning your actions with being true to yourself
 5. Gratitude: Acknowledging and appreciating life’s positives (and with increased awareness, also acknowledging and appreciating the negatives)
 6. Simplicity: Focusing on decluttering, simplifying routines, and most of all, prioritizing what truly matters
 7. Responsibility: Taking responsibility for your choices and their impacts on yourself, others, and the environment
 8. Connection: Recognizing the divine in yourself, the interconnectedness of all life, building meaningful connections, and being empathic

Start practicing these in your daily life. Start slowly, one by one. Eventually, your life will become a continuous spiritual practice.

To sum everything up: spirituality isn’t a separate aspect of life—it is life.

Practicing spirituality doesn’t require you to have a perfect set of rituals. Instead, it invites you to recognize the divine in yourself and everything around you.

Everyday spirituality is about understanding the interconnectedness of all things, living authentically, and finding meaning in the mundane. It is about mindfulness and being present, fully engaging in your actions each moment.

Through this approach, you will bring more happiness, fun, and fulfillment into your daily life.

How to Find Your Light with Shadow Work and Human Design https://www.tut.com/how-to-find-your-light-with-shadow-work-and-human-design/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-find-your-light-with-shadow-work-and-human-design Thu, 05 Sep 2024 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.tut.com/?p=15672 The post How to Find Your Light with Shadow Work and Human Design appeared first on TUT.

]]>
No matter where you are on your journey, shadow work comes up. But with the help of Human Design—the road map to your life’s purpose—you can lessen the blow it has on you. Shadow work is no joke, and Human Design is spot on. Combining them, you learn to navigate and flow through the muddy waters just a bit better. Consider it your life raft through the shadow river.

So, let’s break down how the Human Design system, and how learning your energy type, authority, and strategy, can help you face the parts of you that need to be faced. You are the alchemist of your life, but you need the right tools, at the right time.

Let’s dig in.

Shadow Work Defined
Shadow work is just what it sounds like: facing the “shadows” of yourself that are holding you back, hindering you, or not allowing you to be your full authentic self. Essentially, they are the parts of you that may need addressing or healing. And you may be avoiding them; I know I did.

Simply put, your shadow is the hidden part(s) of you that you’ve pushed down—it could be unhealed wounds or patterns that become roadblocks to growth. Shadow work shines a light on those dark areas with courage, so you can come out the other side with the knowledge of pure self.

Human Design as a Shadow-Work Road Map
The good news is that your Human Design is a road map to—and through—your darkest shadows. Your next step (if you haven’t done so already) is getting your Human Design chart. You can obtain this at any free Human-Design generation website.

There are five energy types in Human Design, each with a specific authority, centers, and strategies to get through your life journey:

 • Your energy type: Manifestor, Manifesting Generator, Generator, Projector, and Reflector
 • Your authority (center): essentially your decision-making principle and where you make these decisions in your body (chakras)
 • Your strategy: what helps you cross the bridge between your inner authority and how you behave

Once you obtain this information, you are well on your way to understanding how to face your shadows.

Shadow Work for Your Energy Type
Let’s break down the shadow work for each energy type and showcase exactly what action steps to take with each.

Manifestor Shadow Work
Manifestors are just that—the idea people who kickstart the creativity train of life. What a beautiful energy type it is when in alignment. And just like most thinkers, you find the doing is the hard part in life.

You may have so many ideas and are always saying there’s never enough time. This is your roadblock, your shadow. Dealing with impatience or obstacles? There might be fear of not being in control of what you want or need to do. It’s time to process and express.

Design alignment: Manifestors need to move the ideas through and delegate to get things done. So, if you’re feeling impatient, focus on one thing at a time. Write all your ideas down and choose the one that lights you up fully and completely. Rally the troops and see who wants to get involved and make it happen.

Your team will help you see things through. Join groups, communities, classes, or workshops to get the ball rolling if you must. There are times you just can’t go it alone. Lean on those you trust to get it going.

Manifesting Generator Shadow Work
Manifesting Generators, you are the master of multitasking, and you do it well. Spinning all the plates is your thing, baby. Your superpower is your ability to get it done and make those sparks of inspiration come to life.

And when that happens, you get so many things going that you are frustrated when you’re interrupted and can’t finish them all. You want it, and you want it now. And so, slowing down and appreciating the ride is the only way to flow.

Design alignment: Slow down isn’t what you want to hear, but when you do, magic happens. Breathing through your feelings (into your heart chakra) on each project, you can find the best way to do it—and even find loopholes and efficiencies to get it done more easily than if you rush through it.

If you can learn to love the creation instead of the finish line, you will satisfy your energy type’s desires and fill your cup.

Generator Shadow Work
Ah, the busy bee. The doer. There is nothing our generators can’t do—until they burn out. Generators are the main energy type that experience burnout, feeling resentful, and if they aren’t doing the job they love, they are miserable.

Saying yes. That’s your shadow showing you where you’re agreeing out of obligation instead of true excitement. You overcommit and are scared to say no because you know you can add it to your plate. Does it light you up? If it’s not a HECK yes, then it’s a HECK no.

Design alignment: Before you say yes to the next commitment, ask yourself if it makes you feel genuinely lit up. Will this move you toward growth or toward an energy shortage? And ask yourself if you’re able to do it with ease and grace. Turn inward, breathe into the sacral chakra, and listen for your generator answers. Your gut is your lighthouse.

Projector Shadow Work
Projectors are a very special type. They are the lighthouses of our world—shining bright as a guiding light. You bring so much light to this world and are so needed. But when you are seeking recognition and not getting it, you will dim significantly.

Often you may feel overlooked, bitter, or like you have to do more to be “seen.” Those are signs your shadow needs balance, boundaries, and self-recognition. You don’t need to look elsewhere to find achievement; it lives inside you all the time.

Design alignment: When you get the invitation, and you will, listen to the intuition that is whispering to you. Listen and move toward it with humility. When you aren’t in it for the money, fame, or glory, your purpose lights up.

You will find sheer fulfillment when you see your guiding light shine brightly out there for others. You may not see how your light ripples out into the world, but it’s there. Every positive thing you say to yourself, you are aligning with your unique design.

Reflector Shadow Work
Reflectors are a rare, beautiful breed. Less than 1% of the world, they are the mirror of our true selves. You are constantly absorbing all the energy around you and are expected to show people what they need to see at all times. What a daunting job!

You may feel the world’s energy on your shoulders, and you may not be releasing that. Your shadow work might be learning how to protect your energy and distinguish what’s yours from what you’re absorbing from others.

Design alignment: Become good friends with the moon. Regardless of absorption, you will be waiting a moon cycle to make decisions. Release energy on a full moon and charge up your ideas on a new moon. Start a moon-cycle ritual practice for grounding and releasing.

Write out your decisions, burn them under the moonlight, and really let them go. Don’t let them build up inside you. Instead, send it all back to the moon, and watch your cup fill up.

Your Unique Shadow Design
There’s no instruction manual on shadow work, but with an understanding of what you do best, you can navigate it just a little easier. Each time you face your shadow self, you better yourself and raise the vibration for the collective. Don’t give up. It’s going to get messy, and dark—but out of the darkness comes your beautiful light.

The ancient Greeks believed that the Earth was composed of earth, air, fire, water and that the heavens, stars, and planets were made of a less tangible substance known as ether or quintessence.

Hence, ethereal refers to regions beyond the Earth and anything that seems to originate from there. In the Middle Ages, people called this by its Latin name quinta essential, literally, “fifth essence.” Quintessence.

Ethereal Me is a beautiful, exquisitely delicate part of your eternal Being. You connect with it by suspending your judgements, prejudices, and logical thought, as it’s a place where you are free to open your mind, spirit, and soul.

You feel your vibrations lighten, your Be-ing grow gentle, your Way become softer. To practice manifesting it we suggest: imagine it, believe in it, believe what it is telling and showing youas all things start with your beautiful imagination.

That is exactly how this article came about: Alan had this flash of an idea of us playing Qiki-feelmoves on the top of a hill with just the sky and grass and dressed in white floaty clothes.

For the location, we went to a monument high on a hill where we immediately knew we had found the perfect place, exactly the one in Alan’s initial imagination. It had all been manifested and become real.

The following is in the first person so nothing comes between you and your Ethereal Way:

I am energy, atoms. I am vibrations. I am Ethereal—a knowing that is my true essence. A way which exudes serene beauty, elegance, purity. Where my spirit lives when I let it run free.

To guide me, I enter the realm of my superconscious where true creativity resides, of pure wisdom involving intuition before reason and emotions. Away from my here and now, away from my conscious and subconscious.

To a level of heightened awareness that sees beyond material reality to that which makes water soft yet powerful; air into wind, a breeze; the Universes sing. The subquantum of my mind, body and emotions merge with the subquantum of All.

Be-ing Ethereally Qiki starts with a glorious feeling of quiet, calm, and content, which slowly manifests into a movement—very slight, turning into a larger movement or sometimes disappearing altogether.

Floating Surrounded by the Tiniest Ebbing and Flowing Ethereal Vibrations: In time my arms open to float, to fly, every fiber rises and falls. Gently scooping the softest ethereal vibrations ever felt up through my layers of Be-ing. Spreading and opening with a glorious feeling of offering to the Universe. As my energies draw down, the ethereal ebb and flow continues until it settles.

Playing Ethereal Beautiful Waves of Music: The music, real or imagined, passes from side to side, constantly moving. Play for eternity, or longer or less.

Ethereal Feathers Abound: Softer than the softest silk, wispier than the wispiest cloud. They drift up on the vibrational thermals, floating as they descend in perfect harmony—turning, rotating. A gentle whoosh of the thermal vibrations takes them up and up again… to drift slowly down. They settle and rest.

Spiraling Galaxies: Feeling the rotational vibration throughout and within, a deep, rhythm of life. The small to the galactically large and beyond. Swirling within and with the Ethereal ether. In slowness, spirals encased in spirals, never ending, no beginning, every direction. Eventually settle (still with spirals).

The Curve of Phi: Curves of wonder, of delight, of delicateness, of fun. Curving from my ethereal being, up, across, out, flowing elegance, down, in, around—on a continuum. Ethereal beauty.

Time Stands Still: There is no time. All just is. The slow flow outwards from one side, then draws back, passing through and out the other side—up gently, down even more so, as an Ethereal pendulum, yet counting no time.

Suspended in Ethereal Vibrations: Float—simply float. Arms open feeling the energy envelop, everything relaxes. Superconscious takes over totally.

Absorb Pureness: Take time, Ethereal time. There is no rush, ever. Feel, imagine, listen, then listen again. Mind, body, arms, soul, spirit open. Absorb and release. Absorb and release.

So many people have the false notion that following your intuition means tuning out the real world. Nothing could be further from the truth. Strange as it may seem, in order to become aware of your sixth sense and higher awareness, you must first become aware of the world around you and what is here and now.

My spiritual teacher Dr. Tully taught me that the key to developing intuition, in fact, is to pay attention to the world around us today. He told me that people are confused when they think intuition is tuning in to some otherworldly frequency.

“Genuine intuition,” he explained, “is founded on accurate observations of the here and now. It is these accurate observations, once turned over to the Higher Self, that lead to the most advanced insights.” In other words, you need to be fully aware and present in the moment to activate your vibes.

So many of us today—especially parents—are so overbooked, juggling so many things at one time, constantly playing catch-up and racing around like crazy that we often end up dimming our awareness to nothing more than a whirling gray fog. When we are this overwhelmed and exhausted we unable to see the most obvious of situations, let alone tune in to the more subtle intuitive aspects of life.

One day many years ago, when my children were only one and two years old, I sat exhausted on the front porch after a long day at work and watched the girls playing in front of the house while Patrick watered the lawn. After a few minutes, a pleasant-looking woman walked up to Patrick and the two of them chatted briefly. Then she smiled at me and continued down the street.

“Who’s that, Patrick?” I asked.

Patrick looked at me in disbelief. “Sonia, that’s our neighbor who’s been living next door to us for the past six months.” He shook his head in wonder that I didn’t know her.

“You’re kidding,” I answered. “I’ve never seen her before.”

“Yes, you have!” Patrick insisted. “You’ve seen her hundreds of times. You’ve just never paid attention to her before.”

Boy, did I ever feel like a fool. Patrick was right. My awareness had truly shriveled up in the past few months. Ever since Sabrina was born my life had sped up so much that it became a blur. I spent my days trying to manage so much—the two girls both in diapers, rehabbing our two-flat building with Patrick while he worked two jobs, keeping up on my one-on-one work with clients, and giving workshops.

All of this was crammed into a very short 24-hour day, and I was so overwhelmed with so much activity that there were days when I couldn’t even remember what I had done, let alone was conscious of anything beyond myself. And now, staring at a neighbor as if she were a complete stranger, I realized that in my effort to do it all I had spiraled right out of my own body and off the planet Earth. I was so “otherly” focused that I had lost the ability to see the nose in front of my face.

Though Patrick and I laughed about it at the moment, that experience was a real wake-up call for me. “Where was I? Where had I been? Where was my awareness lately?” I wondered. As I reflected on the previous year, I could hardly bring any of it into focus. Nothing stood out. As I watched my girls carefully scrutinizing the ants on the sidewalk, I realized that in all my hurried doings I hadn’t really been present in my life. Not to them. Not to anything.

I watched my daughters gleefully examining a fallen leaf. First Sonia eyeballed it very closely and then she handed it to Sabrina, who promptly popped it into her mouth. It felt good to be back in the moment, leaving my mental rat race behind. I took in a long, deep breath, savoring the air as it filled my lungs and energized me.

As I exhaled and sat in that quiet moment before the next breath, my awareness exploded into a symphony of acute sensuality. I began to notice things I hadn’t noticed before. Colors became brighter. Sounds became more acute. My children were no longer mental extensions of me but returned to being the unique and precious beings that they were. It was as if someone had just tuned my mental TV channel from fuzzy black and white to sharp, brilliant color.

Slowly, luxuriously even, I took another breath. Sonia tottered toward me screaming, “Mommy, look!” Sabrina spit out her leaf and followed her sister. Sonia held up her baby hand to me, and right in the middle of it was a bright orange-red ladybug with black dots. The minute I looked at it, it flew away.

In that moment I decided that I absolutely had to slow down! I had to stop racing around in my mind trying to frantically cover all the bases. I had to stop scheduling every minute of my day down to the nanosecond, leaving me no time to be aware of anything. I had to back off from my nose-to-the-grindstone, hyper-drive tempo of trying to keep it all together and simply breathe and trust that my slowing down would not compromise a thing.

In fact it was necessary if I wanted to be a good mother, and more importantly, to arm my children with such necessary life tools as intuition and clear vision. I, myself, had to stop the insane and unconscious pace of “doing it all” that had removed my awareness from planet Earth.

“So this is what Dr. Tully meant when he said intuition arises out of a keen sense of the here and now,” I thought to myself as I watched Sabrina digging in the dirt and Sonia very carefully sticking her toes into the water sprinkler. “They are noticing everything in this moment by having a very direct experience with the world around them… right now!”

This is where intuition is born. This is the first lesson in awareness.

I grew up in a world where there was virtually no veil between the physical and nonphysical planes. It was natural to me to connect with the spirit world of helpers and guides and feel their presence at all times. With their help, my life was magical, fulfilling, positive, and always protected. To me this was not a big deal, and I assumed everyone had the same experience.

But early in life I began to realize, sadly, that the rich and loving world of spirit from which I drew such comfort and support was virtually unknown to most people, and I wondered why.

Over time I’ve come to understand that our disconnection from the spirit world is a Western soul disease in which industrialization and intellectualism have snatched us from our hearts—the place where we meet and commune with spirit—and planted us squarely in our heads—the place where our egos reign over us with threats of isolation and annihilation.

By “living in our heads,” we not only miss out on our own spirit and our natural connection with the spirit world, we miss the magic that brings as well.

The good news is that with a little effort you can reconnect with your guides, because as spirit, it is only natural that you connect with the spirit world. To start, it helps if you understand exactly who your guides are and where they come from.

There are many levels of spirit guides and nonphysical entities and energies in the spirit world. Each guide has it own frequency, some higher than others, like specialists waiting to help us on virtually every matter in our world.

Some of these guides are those who once lived, some are past family members and loved ones, some are from past lives that you shared, some come in the form of spiritual teachers to oversee and direct your path.

You also have healer guides who assist your physical and emotional care, helper guides who make the practical day-to-day matters you face run smoother, nature spirits and elementals who connect you with the Earth, animal spirits to guide your journey, even joy guides to keep your own spirits high and make you laugh when life becomes overwhelming and painful.

There are also angels, saints, divas, masters, and, of course, the Alpha and Omega of all guides, our Loving Creator, God.

So you see, the spirit world is as populated as ours—myriad different guides working on different frequencies all the time to help and assist us. This shows how wonderfully loving and generous God is toward us. No matter what we face, or what we desire, we have a huge divine support system to help us meet all our challenges and realize all our dreams. All we must do is ask.

When we remember we are spiritual beings, we have a high vibration so we are not too distant from the spiritual frequencies of those in the nonphysical plane, thus making connection with our spirit guides easy.

But when we forget or don’t know we are spiritual beings and identify with our egos instead, we consequently have a lower vibration and are more distanced on the frequency range from the spirit world, so making the connection to our guides is a bigger stretch.

It is no different than the difficulty of having an am radio receiver wanting to tune in to an fm broadcast. You can’t. In order to receive the broadcast you seek, you must have the right receiver. In the case of receiving guidance, that receiver is your conscious awareness of and attention to your spirit.

The good news is that no matter what your present vibrational frequency—or consciousness—if you want to connect with your guides and benefit from their support, you can (these 21 lessons and exercises will help). To do so, simply become aware of and connect with your own spirit. The simplest way to do this is to recognize what makes you come alive.

Ask yourself: What experiences, activities, energies excite you, inspire you, give you strength, fortify and nourish you at your core, leave you feeling satisfied, in love with life, and comfortable in your own skin? These are what connect you with your spirit and lead you to your authentic self. The closer you are to your authentic self, the closer you are to your guides.

If you’re disconnected from or insensitive to your spirit, chances are very high you will also be disconnected from any assistance your guides provide. The more you pay attention to and pursue what you love, the more you will sense your guides helping you succeed. They will do everything possible to make your life easier, happier, and more satisfying if you ask them.

Because they respect your free will, they cannot interfere with your life, make decisions for you, intrude upon your intentions, or change your course. They can only help you with the decisions you make, and even then only if those decisions support your authentic spirit and deepest happiness.

And yet your guides are eager to help. The more you ask from them, the more they give. They want to serve. In fact, if you want to experience blessings from your guides right away, ask them to give you a present today. I assure you that before the day is over, they will—and love doing it.

Do not struggle any more in life than you have to. Life is challenging, which is why our Creator gives us all the support we need. Open your heart and let your guides in. They love you and are eager to get to work helping your life flow more easily.

We all have a personality, that ego that likes to run the show or swirl the mind. And we also have our soul, that deep part of us who travels through lifetimes accumulating experience and hopefully wisdom and compassion.

But where all the really delicious stuff resides is in our spirit, that spark of Divine within us. It is the pure, inextinguishable light that comes from God, the Universe, Source, or whatever you like to call it. It is our life force and guiding light.

We commune with this light, which can never fade, as we pass back into spirit after this lifetime. Another term for that spirit we hold within, ever connected to above, is our Higher Self.

We may feel disconnected from that life force, but our spirit never leaves us. It is always true and centered within us, and that is the energy we can use to connect to our pure joyful and loving Self. We are our best selves—hopeful, uplifted, and directed—when we work in concert with our Higher Self.

When we are not connected to our higher energy, we can start to believe in fear, or that life is and must be difficult. We struggle through challenges with anxiety or worry, and we might waiver when feeling this loneliness. It is simply the separation of our spirits from our bodies.

There are many ways to connect with our light selves and to bring it closer to us, and the first is to make the body feel good. Our spirits can only be in our bodies when our bodies feel good.

Spirit does not leave, but it may be further than you need until you consciously ask and do. It cannot douse its light to merge with lower energies, so it is up to us to reach out as Divinity reaches back.

Do breathwork or stretching to get into a good physical place. Provide nutrition to your vessel, creating an apt space for finer vibrations to come in. Perhaps do some releasing so you are in a state of openness with room for your higher light to come in. When you are willing to spend a moment creating this important connection, Divinity steps in and makes the link.

Once you are ready to meet your Higher Self, close your eyes, calm your body with a few deep breaths, and relax into meditation space with a smile.

In your mind’s eye look around you for the light of spirit; it will be unmistakable. Your Higher Self will be visible so look around you with the sight of your inner and upper world. You may see her behind you, or above and to one side. He may be distant or close.

When you see your spirit smile and welcome her to you. I like to say, “Hello Higher Self, please come close to me, I want to be with you.” Asking is so powerful and always moves Divinity. You can also silently tell your spirit that you would like to connect with them and feel their light and love.

When you ask your spirit self to come closer to you, notice that it moves closer. Take this as confirmation of connection and a chance to bring in more light. See her drawing close and begin to feel that pure lovely presence.

Welcome your spirit and just allow this connection to take place. Feel your body calm as that bright light approaches.

Then you can ask your Higher Self to merge with you. See him turn around and sit into your body in a relaxed manner of receiving. Feel the finer vibration. Have an awareness that as your spirit melds with you, your frequency is heightened.

Feel what parts of your mind and body may not allow in this light source, and do some releasing of those areas into the earth with a grounding cord. As you make space and relax, your spirit more easily fills you.

Let that light fill your entire body, as much as you can have. See it filling your aura space all around you, and even sealing your aura bubble with that powerful golden energy.

Whether your spirit can come into you or just sit next to you, it is closer, and you will be able to feel it. This is a great time to ask questions or ask for guidance on anything. You can continue sitting in this space and calling your Higher Self, and each time, she will get closer.

Gently thank your spirit; try to keep the sensation of feeling good so it can stay close to you. And any time you share a desire for more intimate connection, your spirit will answer by your thoughts of it and calls to it.

Build this relationship with consistency because life is easier and more beautiful when we are connected and feel not alone. We are never alone, but we can entice our highest energy to light our world and keep us to our best path. Soon we will know this bond is ever present and available for help in any life avenue.
